NUM SUPPORTER SCHEME
Would you like to become a Supporter of NUMs work?
Do you believe sex workers’ rights are human rights?
National Ugly Mugs has recently decided to create a Register of Supporters and ask supporters to make a small regular donation. This page is to answer most of the questions that you may have. Anyone can join - you don’t have to be a sex worker to support sex workers’ rights! If you would like to become a Supporter today click here
NUMs Pilot scheme was first funded by the Home Office which ran from July 2012 until March 2013, since then we have relied on the goodwill of a small number of people and organisations who have given donations. However, our funds are running out very quickly. Other charitable funding (such as independent Trust funding) is extremely hard to come by and this is particularly true for sex worker-led organisations and those campaigning for a rights-based approach to sex work. Often sex work is just too controversial a subject for funding bodies in the UK to support.
How much will it cost?
We are asking those joining NUM as a Supporter to donate £5 a month. If you want to donate more, then of course you are more than welcome to make a larger donation.
What do I get for my money?
The money that you give is used to fund NUMs activities these include,
- the running of the Membership scheme;
- improving communication between sex workers and the police and supporting sex workers in accessing the criminal justice system
- recording and analysing crimes committed against sex workers in order to build a national picture of perpetrators.
- Sharing vital information about perpetrators with other sex industry workers and police
- Providing helpline support and advice to sex workers about reporting crimes and referring them to appropriate support services.
